Engine alarm

I have a 2005 225 optimax mercury 2 stroke. I am getting a 4 beep alarm while running. I have already changed fuel filter and have been told to unplug the small oil tank on the motor, and if the alarm stops then it must be a bad oil tank /sensor. Can anyone give me some advice?
