Electrical engine issue on Tiara 2700 Open

Went to start right engine on boat, turn key and nothing happens; no gauges, alarm, lights, anything. The engine was running 5 mins before. Swapped batteries and checked fuses to no avail. I looked at the 50 amp breaker on top of engine and tried to push it in, but seemed to be already in.

Left engine starts and runs fine.

Engines are 270/350 Crusaders.

Any ideas?

thanks

Once in a while we'll see a Cole Hersee red button circuit breaker that requires a very hard re-set push.
Give it another try.
Also, check for continuity at both sides of it.

If your Starboard side MBSS is a Perko 90* sweep style, these have very light duty contacts compared to many others.
Check for power at the #1 and #2 poles at the rear of this switch as you switch to each #1 and #2 positions.

Also look to see if you have a heavy amp fuse in the Starboard side battery bank's #1 or #2 cable paths.
If so, check for continuity.

Don't forget to check your Negative cable.

Did you make sure the shifter was in neutral? Shift it into forward-neutral-reverse a few times and then make sure it is in neutral again before trying to start. If still NG you could try using a jumper to bypass it to rule it IN or OUT as a possible cause.

I would agree if this was a starter motor engagement issue only.
However, the OP says:

Yes I did move the shifter, but knew that wasn't it when no lights or alarm came on.

i will try the above mentioned ideas when I get back to boat in a couple weeks.

I had a similar problem earlier this summer and the trouble was a bad ground. I ran a wire direct from the negative battery post to the fuse box and all went correct so I followed the neg or ground wire and the connections at the back of the boat were all corroded. I cleaned all the terminals and everything is now working perfect.

I had a similar problem years ago on one of my 270 Crusaders. It was corrosion on the main power pin in the engine harness plug at the instrument panel end. Rather than replace the whole harness I by passed around the plug crimping in a heavy jumper wire. I would recommend unplugging bothe ends of the engine harness and inspecting the pins/sockets.

Not to bring up a dead thread, but this problem reoccured and finally figured it out.

On the Tiara, there is a breaker panel down by the drivers right knee, the very top breakers are "Ignition", left and right. This panel is exposed to weather and sea spray when water goes over windows.

The boat was shut off, then tried to restart, completely dead. I took my hand and got behind that panel and moved wire bundles and it came back to life. Haven't pulled it yet, but guessing corrosion is going to be culprit back there.

Just an FYI is this happens to anyone else!

Glad you found it...check the wires' terminations and the breakers too....if it is the breakers, there is nothing like a mil-spec (sealed) breaker....they aren't check but will last for a long time.
