Electric Start and Remote Control Wiring Question

Hi All, When I bought my mercury the guy before me only used the pull start. I went ahead and bought a cranking battery and hooked up the connectors that are coming out of the motor. When I turn the key the starter just clicks. I assume that this is either the starter solenoid or the started itself. There are four wires that are coming out of the throttle control that are not hooked to anything. Two are cut and two have connectors wired to them. Does anyone know the function of these wires? Would this be the cause of the electric start not working? See the picture below Tracker 25 Starter.jpg

no info on the model or hp given but prob not necc at this time...does the motor run when started with manual start?if so then you are looking at the reason he was not using electric...if you hear a click then its probably the solenoid picking...this is a simple circuit...the only thing you need from the key being turned to start is a pick from the switch to the small terminal on the solenoid...you should have battery voltage on the big terminal on the solenoid and when it picks this voltage should be applied to the starter post and the starter engages. Make sure you have a fully charged battery and use a meter to find out if you are picking the solenoid and if the voltage comes through the now picked solenoid to the starter post...please get back to us on the voltage readings...

Motor is a 1998 tracker 25hp 2 stroke. It starts up and runs great when the pull start is used. I will check the voltage and report back.
