Is there a safe way to wire an electric fuelpump and an electronic choke on a new 5.7 vortec power pack with a Holley carb. The boat is older and doesn't have the wiring harness needed to just plug them in. Thanks for any help.

"Gary,
Well ya know there

"Gary,
Well ya know there is never a 100% guarantee to being safe.As for your situation you might get different ideas from different people.A few years ago I put new engines in myself and this is what I did.I wired the fuel pump that the ground became my switch as I wired it to my oil pressure. That way if an emergency happens or a fire starts,if the engine shuts off or you turn it off, the pump will not continue to put fuel to the fire. The only drawback to this is that when starting you only have the fuel thats in the bowl of the carbs to start. What I did was put in a bypass switch to a ground in case I needed more fuel to get it started. That was never needed in 2 years of early spring and late fall starts. Also prevents a problem of leaving the key in the on position running the pumps.Worked well for me and I would do it that way again....Todd"

The problem with using the oil

The problem with using the oil pressure switch as the ground is that it isn't made to handle the current. the proper way to do that is to use the pressure switch to control a relay which is a low current device. GM had troubles with that on their older 6.5l diesel trucks and went to the relay solution.

I will say that I have a couple of Triumph TR8 cars that do use a three terminal oil pressure switch that does control the fuel pump. In one condition it's open and the fuel pump runs when the key is turned. When the pressure comes up it flipps and a holding circuit is made until the pressure drops thus shutting off the pump and also lighting a light on the dash.

The three terminal switches are available from most auto parts stores.

You have to be careful with the newer EFI engines as it's not a switch. It's just a resistor that varies according to the pressure and sends a signal to the ECM which generates the gauge signal and also the warning buzzer. I'm on my third one of these in my 2007 8.1L engine.

"Crusader has an electric fuel

"Crusader has an electric fuel pump kit for older engines. They also sell a switch which does both oil alarm and fuel pump interlock.

(R153005 Switch, oil pressure, fuel pump intrlk) In case you want to use your own pump. It's #18 on the diagram.
