Electric choke help

Howdy.

1982 Evinrude 60hp 2 cylinder e60elcnm

I can't figure out my choke. This choke is not the style that squirts fuel.

I've jumped it and it works.
Took my remote control apart and tested the key, found 12v when pushed in to choke.
I have continuity between the power and ground terminal on the solenoid (which the internet says is correct?)
I have continuity from the power terminal on the solenoid to two different posts (?) on the engine side wiring harness/plug. They are the purple/white (I was only expecting to get it on this one) and pink/purple on this diagram https://maxrules.com/graphics/omc/wiring/78-84_3-CYL_EL.jpg
I have continuity from the key to the purple/white terminal to the "boat" side plug at all times. Continuity from the pink/purple terminal on the KEY to the purple/white terminal at the "boat" side plug when key is on AND pushed in.
Battery is charged and has 12.8v while testing.

What I can't seem to find is 12 volts coming from the "boat" side plug when the key is in any position; on, pushed, or start. The motor does crank and run.

What else can I try? Thank you in advance for any help.

The key recieves it's 12 volts from the motor. So unless the remote is plugged into the motor side you will not have 12 volts. The red wire at the key carries the 12 volts to the ignition. Your choke has butterflies that are pulled closed by a solenoid I think that is a purple/white wire. You should hear the choke click with the key pushed in. Take off the front cover of the airbox to look at the butterflies and make sure they are closing. What problem are you having exactly?

OK, that would explain why I don't get 12 volts at the plug.

With the key pushed in, they choke does not click/activate.

If I jump the solenoid with clips straight from the battery, it works as it should.

With everything plugged in and just the remote taken apart and putting leads on the key I get 12v to the terminal that is labeled for the choke (according to the diagram I linked in my first post).

Test the key switch. And test for power at the solenoid. Also check the connection make sure it is not corroded. Needs to be shiny clean. Gotta ask are the motors battery cables connected.

Cleaned up the connectors on the solenoid. I get 12v at the key when I push it in. I don't get 12v at the solenoid...

battery is all hooked up.

Power goes to the ignition switch from the battery.-----When key is pushed in 12 volts goes to one terminal on choke solenoid.-----If choke solenoid does work the there is something wrong with switch or the wire. ----Should be easy to find the issue in my opinion.----Possibly a poor connection in the red plug.
 
Well, checking back over everything again I notice I would get .5v at the solenoid when pushing the key in. tore the tape off the wires going back to the plug and it just started falling apart... I guess I'm ordering a new plug for the motor. sucks...

The plug is just a convenience feature.----Find a terminal strip and eliminate the plug.----Red goes to red and white to white so to speak.
 
True, I just wonder what kind of shape the other wires would be in and if I'll just run into this issue again. But, at $150 or so for a new plug, I think I might just be running a wire...
 
I suggested a $15 terminal strip.-----Wiring is so confusing to many folks.----They say they a new Tesla has about 5000' ( 1 mile ) of wires.----Hope it is good stuff and neatly installed.
 
Bought the stuff to replace the pin in the plug, other wires started falling apart on me in the process. I was worried about that. Went ahead and bought a new plug from CDI...
