"No doubt this has been covered, i just couldn't find it, so please bear with me.
I'm running a 225 slant six marine in my lobster boat with chrysler electronic ignition. The coil is overheating(i know they will get somewhat hot, but I wouldn't want to grab this one to pick it up.) It does have a ballast resister in line from "run" to the pos. side of the coil. It does not have a wire from "start" to the far side of the resister, because when i do that, it will start on "run" with the key just on. This is driving me nuts! Can anyone steer me? Thanks, Gray"

"Me too! In its simplest terms, the coil should see 12 volts while cranking and about 9 in RUN.

"Jeff...I do see 9v from the coil in "run". Today I checked the resist. in the ballast resister, and it looked like only 1.5 ohms, so I put two resisters in series. That helped the coil heat, but the last resister on the line burnt my finger! So I just transferred the problem. Who was the guy who said that it ain't rocket science?"
