E90TSLECM engine hot light. 1989 90 hp

Hello Hello experts.
I have a 1998 90hp Evinrude. Great engine and I'm happy with it. On the first outing over the last 2 seasons, my hot engine light is activated after a few minutes of running. It makes that annoyingly loud but important beep noise. I shut the engine off, restart and then it goes away.

What is the cause, and what must I do to make sure this engine lasts a long time?

This is an awesome site and it looks like I can get anything I need to keep the engine running great for years to come.

The impeller was changed last season, the thermos 2 years ago. The light and beep only came on on the first trip out on the last 2 seasons. Something may be sticky from not running for 4-5 months and then un-sticks??

I presume the light and beep will do so again on the first outing of this season (a few weeks away). I would like to fix this. I will run the engine with muffs next weekend because the carbs will be getting cleaned.
