e30ELCDM '86 Air box?

This motor is new to me and I was wondering if it was supposed to have an air box on the carburetor. There doesn't seem to be any in the parts list. There is one on my '79 35hp Johnson that fits except the mixture knob can't be turned.

Is it necessary to have one to keep dirt or sand out (hood on) and the noise level down? Thanks.

It is normal, these engines doesn't have or need an airbox. Keep it the way it is now.
