Ok, I am new to the Johnson 115 4v. Is this a motor that needs a gas/oil mixture? Does it have a separate oil resiviour? Whats the mixture? Need help with this please. On a good note I did get the motor running again, lol.

Depends on the year / model of your motor.------------Starting in 1984 these motors came equipped with oil injection.----It is up to you to see if that system is still in service.----Many of them had the oil injection removed / bypassed.----So mix the gas and oil at 50:1 untill you confirm what you have.-------Trip to your local boat repair shop might be a good idea.

Check the model number and serial numbers. The model number should be J115, then some letters, then either a 2 digit number and a letter or 3 more letters. It's the last 3 digits which are important, with the first and second of the 3 giving you the model year of your motor. Johnsons are easy if before 1980 because these digits would be numbers stating the year in "plain-speak" i.e. 71= 1971, 78= 1978. Evinrudes are a pain prior of 1980 because you must look-up the number range to figure it out. After 1980 OMC went to a letter key system for both brands. The key is INTRODUCES, where I= 1, and S= 0. This will get the answers to your questions started.

Is there any online database of serial numbers and part number ids?
