Check any breakers. How long was the wrench in contact?

That and look for large fuse holders, that often have a 50 amp fuse inside (for Tilt n Trim). Best to find the schematic though and follow the flow of current from the battery to the engine, tilt and trim and dashboard....

I think CG regs require that batteries are either in a box or the terminals have protection. Simple & easy to do.

User preference perhaps?

My boat came with the terminals unprotected.
Private sale, or from a dealer? Dealers are risking a lot if they send boats out the door without being CG compliant and the regs are part of boater safety training. This also shows info about NOT using nylock nuts and requirement for using some kind of lock washer. Wind nuts are bad, too- many never tighten them properly. The minimum is the flexible plastic covers for the terminals, next is a cover and then, a battery box- if the CG randomly inspects boats, why risk the problems caused by not meeting their guidelines?

My boat got boarded for an inspection by the CG some years back and yes they checked for covers on battery terminals. I don’t use battery boxes (used to) because none of them fit the battery types well nor did it hold the battery securely. So I have automotive style clamps bolted to the battery cable terminals and covers on both + & -. I also have a cover for the B+ lead on the starter solenoid
(Inboard). That stupid strap for the box always loosened. Someone needs to come up with a better way!

What size batteries? I haven't had problems finding boxes, even for Group 32 or 34 (whatever it is, they're in my friends' Carver Santego 38 but they have so many group numbers that it's not as easy as it was to get the size. He has AC Delco or Interstate batteries- don't remember since I haven't worked on it in awhile.

You can use a small ratchet strap, but the ratchet would probably get in the way. I have a strap with a spring-loaded clip that has teeth, to grip the cloth strap. It's not like the woven plastic crappy clip and strap.

Gp 27. The boxes I could find were just too big, I used pieces of wood cut to size to keep the batteries from moving around…i
Thought it was better to have the batteries secured in a tray with the terminal
insulators.

No point straining the wires and terminals due to sliding around in the boxes. If you decide to look further, Wally World has Group 27 boxes.
