The Tilt Trim Motor on my DT85 is locking up. I bought the boat as a used boat but I think its the originL motor and if so it is a 1987 model.
Anyway, when the trim motor locks and of course the motor will not go up or down. However I can tap the top of the motor while depressing the control switch and it then will operate and lift or lower the motor. I know of someone who had a similar problem and was advised to replace the whole unit ($600) but Im not sure that was the best advice. I have limited mechanical knowledge or experience but it appears to me that perhaps the brushes are worn on the motor that drives the pump and are causing the problem. If this sounds like what is wrong is it possible to just change out the brushes without changing the whole unit and is it very difficult?
If it could be something else what do you suggest?
If I need a new motor/pump assembly where might I find it for a motor this old?
