Im new to the forums and first want to thank anyone that's willing to help. I bought a 82 vip with a mercruiser stern drive. I'm assuming its an alpha 1 the id plate is not readable on it. Im not new to wrenching but new to boat repair. The issue im having is the drive will not go down. It raises without a problem. I checked at the switch and all was good there and it worked when I jumped the solenoid so I replaced the solenoid today. I can now hear the solenoid click when I hit the switch but the motor will not turn on. but it will still work if I jump the solenoid. all the connections are clean. any help would be greatly appreciated.
