I have twin Volvo 4.3L in a 20

I have twin Volvo 4.3L in a 2000 290 Larson. When I go over a wake or run in choppy water my RPM's jump up high and the boat slows down. I need to go into neutral and and power up again. Larson recommends 1" drive spaces to lower the drives. A dealer suggested Dol-fins to help hold the drives in the water. Maybe the 4.3L engines are to light? The boat had 5.0L or 5.8L option. I plan on trying the one piece Hydrofoil. That seems to be the easiest and least expensive thing to do first. Any ideas or suggestions?

"Mike, The "X" measurement is too great. Translation, Larson mounted the motors too high. You may be able to overcome this by simply adding cup to your props, this may require going to stainless, if you don't already have them. Aluminum is too brittle to allow the degree of cup you may need. Mercruiser's Mirage works really well and will bolt right on. You can also consider a good 4 blade. Coming from the performance market, we would install engines too high on purpose (less drag) then put a good prop on it to make it perform well. Granted these were lighter boats, but the theory is the same.

This 1" spacer kit sounds like a quick fix, but did the Larson guy tell you what this kit cost and what's involved in installing it? Sounds like you're not the first guy to call therm about it."

"Rick, Thanks for you info. They came with 3 blade stainless. The marine center I have been going to for years did say he thought the drives were mounted to high. I never heard of a cup. What is it and where would I find it? What do you think of the hydrofoil? People said to try it and if it doesn't work it won't hurt."

"Mike,
Before you change and buy new props. You should have them reworked. It would cost a fraction and would prove if its works.

Good Luck"
