"What I do is pump a majority through the dipstick and then line my bilge with Oil Absorbant pads (I have an unlimited supply through work) can be bought at safety supply type of stores. Pull the filter and the oilpan plug to drain the rest of the oil which carries a majority of the sludge. Put on new filter, install plug (not too tight), wipe up any drips on the engine, put oil stained pads in a hefty bag to dispose of properly along with the oil. No mess at all in the bilge. Refill engine. I leave one pad underneath the front of the engine all the time since I have an oil leak anyway. I don't want to leak oil from the bilge onto the gound when I pull the plug after a run."

Sucking it out is a pain and takes forever....
If you warm it up it goes a little better but draining it through the plug is the way I always try to go....
For you guys with a hose on the bottom... I have found that using an air compressor and putting a little bit of pressure (NOT TOO MUCH)<<<Just enough to get a good steady stream of oil draining>> will make this job much much easier and faster... I do this on heavy equipment and compressors all the time and it cuts the service time almost 90%!
I use a cut down quart bottle to catch the oil draining from the filters...

"Tim, it does not matter how many people before you and I had the idea. The important thing is that the thinking shows common sense.
