I have a 2002 VP 5.7 Gi with a DP-SM drive. After running at cruising speed for a short time and then slowing to idle speed, I have difficulty shifting back into neutral. I am not sure if something is hanging up in the shift linkage or the single lever control, or the drive itself. Once I get it back in neutral it shifts smoothly between foward, neutral and reverse. In all other respects, the drive and control works very well.
I asked a VP mechanic about this last year and he indicated the problem is with the cone clutch and is "normal". Another mechanic says something is wrong.
I always use VP oil when servicing the engine/drive.
Any ideas?
