DP drive problems

One of my drives takes around 20 seconds before it engages in either reverse or forward. FWd is worse, I actually have to increase throttle then back off before it engages with a slight bang. When Im under way all seems fine but again while shifting from fwd to rev there are delays.

It is coming out of the water in 2 weeks for bottom paint and I plan on changing the oil. Maybe the oil is low? Any ideas?

Synthetic oils can cause this.... water in oil can cause this.... or not enought shift shoe travel.

Double/tripple check that this drive eccentric piston is receiving full travel in each direction.
If the shift shoe is doing it's job, then one of the above is likely the cause.

If the above is all OK, then a very mild and carefully executed "lapping" of the sliding sleeve to cups may be in order.
However, this Can Not be done to a transmission using the steel sliding sleeve and special coated gear cups.

You do not mention which drives these are!

NOTE: Since this has possibly undergone some hard hitting shifts, you'd best check the vertical shaft split ring wear washer for expansion!
All DPs drive from the lower driven gear...... and this hits/pulls hard on this wear washer!
