so, new to the site, desperate for help with what I am sure is a simple question for the right person!
I have a 1992 Chaparral with a volvo penta 572a engine & DP-c drive. I have had excessive play in the steering so today i tore off the drive, dropped the steering fork and helmet, and changed all the bushings and connecting components.
My question... the seal that drives in before re-installing the steering fork is definitely directional. It is a double lip seal with a spring on the inside. The old seal I pulled out had the spring facing down, toward the water... in this correct?
It seems backwards, grease would always flow right out when I service the zerk from the inside. also would be tough to drive into place. Should the spring be facing inside? or should it face out, toward water line?
here are pictures of both sides of the new seal, an exact match to what came out, and the spot on the transom shield where it drives in...
Thank you in advance!!!!!!
