Took my boat to a repair shop

Took my boat to a repair shop this morning due to problem in another post. Turned out Flywheel key ws sheared.'
THey called to tell me they had to replace one of the power packs because it was double firing and that was the cause of it running rough. Is there such a thing as a double firing power pack or did I just get ripped off? If so can someone explain it to me

the easiest way to shear a fly

the easiest way to shear a flywheel pin is firing out of order..example of this is two plug wires crossed...did the motor hit something hard or did you work on it just prior to running rough?if not then i would say it was the power pack and you got off light before damaging the motor...i would check the compression anyway...i also mark(scribe) my flywheel in relation to the shaft on all my motors..

I hit a rock with the prop which caused me ti bring the boat in. It ran very rough after that.

probably too late now to get the same power pack back but i would try...then i would put it on boat and try it...if its ok then i would keep for a spare to get you in when yours fails....

"Double firing packs are quite

"Double firing packs are quite common, and even a reason for stators to run hot. Often caused by use of 'R' plugs. Throw it away if confirmed."

Would a double firing pack cau

Would a double firing pack cause the 1995 88 HP engine to kick at low speed and cause iradict idle? Hard to even get to speed. I bought this boat knowing there was trouble but figured anything can be fixed. I'm open to anything you can feed me to check. It does not overheat. Thanks!!!

"louis you will probably get more help if you start a new thread with your probs, and these guys are gonna want the model #s.

"before i would get all sweaty and worried about a dbl firing pwr pack.........i would do all the basics....
in my shop,..dbl firing pwr packs has NOT been that common.......

however,..........in a shop that services,1000 eng's a summer................i can certainly see it
.the manual states the tests for it...it is listed as a
"possibilty"...and u should eliminate that...we see prob 80 a summer, which is a fair amount of THOSE,and have found maybe 3....and that took 4 hours at least ,w/3 certified tr techs.....
My point is,yes they can dbl fire------it can and will happen...............
my opinon---is it is so rare........prob's are ususlly, somthing else...."
