Bought a 1987 15 hp the other day and didthe normal maintenance you would expect. Mounted it on the boat and it startedup after three pulls but I did not see the stream of PEE so I shut it down andafter a few minutes of inspection found this COMPLETELY CLOGGED. I’ve neverseen this before. Actually, it looked like someone plugged it up. Took meseveral minutes to clean it. According to the seller it had sat for severalyears so maybe it was nasty water??? You just can’t over look anything.

Sorry, I can't tell from the picture what has happened. I'm new to the forum (and outboards in general) and have recently purchased a 1969 Johnson 9.5 HP outboard for my son to use on a small fishing boat. We started it recently (with some difficulty, but got it running) and I noticed that the motor wasn't peeing like I expected. It eventually did intermittently but nothing consistent.

I suspect it needs a new impeller but want to check out anything else that may be causing the problem.

Any other suggestions for an outboard newbie? Doesn't have to be water pump related...

What you r seeing in the pic is the PEE orfice. Which is where the pee exits the motor. It was completely clogged on my motor.
