" I did a very dumb thing. I checked my compression after I bought my boat. I had been out of outboards for awhile and thought a '96 model would have to be o.k. (by far the newest one I've ever owned!) Anyway after reading on these forums curiousity got the best of me. I bought a new compression tester and went to it. I'm pleased to say it had good compression but does this sound right?
130hp Johnson; 132, 132, 133, 135?? Are new figures even this high. I know that I performed the test right. Just wonderin'. "

"Compression readings will vary from gauge to gauge but the idea is to have the readings in the general area of 100+ pounds..... and even on all cylinders. I've had some two cylinder engines in the 50+hp class that have had readings approaching 175 pounds. From what you've stated, you've got a winner there.
