I have a 1987, 4 cyl., 100 hp, Mariner outboard. It will not pee(indicate). I have rebuilt the entire lower unit water pump. Still no pee. Blew out the pee hose with compressed air, and decided to go further. My question is, what is the large metal , port side plate on the power head that the indicator hose comes out the top of? Thanks. I'll need the gasket to replace it and don't know what to ask for.

Is the engine getting hot?, that big plate is called the exhaust plate. You should be able to hold your hand on that plate when it is running without any discomfort from heat. How are you feeding the engine water? Muffs, bucket or the lake? Don't think about removing that plate just yet.

The Pee comes off that exhaust cooling port because that cooling loop is isolated from the engine proper cooling loop since you need to cool the exhaust any time the engine is running, regardless of RPM. Since the water pump increases pressure with an increase in RPMs, the pee stream (normally working) increases its pressure and volume accordingly.

Stick a wire in the hole in the plate and see if it is clean, or just pull the hose off, and run the engine to see if you get flow out of that hole. If not, the water pump isn't pumping (impeller usually) or you sucked up sand or vegetation into the cooling loop and it all will have to be cleaned out....including the block water passages.
