Do all props have a rubber hub

"Hi

after many weeks replacing the cooling system on my 225D to cure an ongoing overheating problem, I took her out yesterday for a sea trial.
On leaving the harbour I started to throttle up to get her on plane and check for overheating when I suddenly lost all forward drive. I throttled back and she crept forward at tickover, opening the throttle, the revs went up but no increased speed. Tried reverse and exactly the same symptoms.
Limped back to my mooring and I am suspecting that the prop is slipping - if it has a rubber hub. My outdrive is a 285, electro-mechanical tilt with power steering.
My boat is moored an hours drive from my house, if anybody knows what tools are needed to remove the prop I would be most grateful.

Bill"

"Bill,

I've got an olde

"Bill,

I've got an older 280. My prop doesn't have a rubber hub. I suspect your's is the same. Just a solid splined hub. That said, I doubt your prop is the problem.
You might want to start with the easy thing first, check to see if you are actually fully engaging your drive in forward or reverse. You want to be sure your shift linkage is working properly.
Pull the cover plate off the back of the drive (two big screws--careful, don't drop anything in the water!). Move the shift/throttle lever all the way forward to see if it's fully engaging--ditto reverse. Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll be something simple.
There's more inside the drive but I'll leave that to the guys who know a lot more than I do. I'd start with the shift cable, linkage adjustment, connections, etc. (on the control and on the drive) to see if there's some obvious problem."

"All Volvo original drive prop

"All Volvo original drive props have rubber hubs, just not visible like on engines with through hub exhaust.
Bill:
Mark the prop and center and do another run. Check Your marks after."

"Morten,
Thanks for upgradin

"Morten,
Thanks for upgrading my VP knowledge. I inadvertantly mislead Bill

. Didn't know they had rubber hubs. I sure can't tell by looking at the props I've got.

Hopefully he'll just have to replace the prop after running that test."

Thanks for the input guys.

Thanks for the input guys.
I'm going to the boat tomorrow to investigate. Does anybody know what tools I need to take just in case the prop has to come off?

Cheers
Bill

"Morten,

I picked up a 15x1

"Morten,

I picked up a 15x17 prop at a yard sale that is solid aluminum, no rubber hub. I was always perplexed by this. Based on your post above, I am guessing you have not run across one like this?"

"Rubber hub not visible but it

"Rubber hub not visible but its there. Look at the side of the prop that faces the drive and look carefully and you will see that it is two pieces with the center part (with spline) inside the outer prop "shell". The center part has a flange the goes all the way to the prop shell itself on the inner edge. In profile the hub is "T shaped". On older drives, i.e. 100 series, the rubber hub was very visible."

Note my reply:
All Volvo [b]o

Note my reply:
All Volvo original.....
As Volvo uses alu in the prop and a brass alloy in the splined center there is no way it might be 'solid alu'!!! and original.
