Distributor alignment

"Looking to see on a 260 ahpha one where do the screws on the Distributor point , I know to point the rotor to # 1 Cylinder . Yet what about the base ? . Im thinkinh lining up the cap #1 toward # 1 Cylinder? Not sure its right .Any advise on this ?"

"Number one plug on the cap sh

"Number one plug on the cap should point towards the number on spark plug on the engine, in that direction.
The wires comming from the sensor typically face the back and to the right of the transom. ( ~1 oclock)looking down at the dist.
