Disconnect a95 evinrude 30hp shift rod

Replacing the water pump in my 1995 30hp Evinrude. When I unbolted he lower unit and dropped it down there isn't a coupling to separate the **** rod like others ta I have changed. Looks like it has to be disconnected from the top. Ay suggestions n how this is done.

There's no coupling behind the water intake screen?

10-4. Looks like the only way it comes completely is off from the top. I got the lower off by pulling the drive shaft out. The plastic tube that the shaft goes through is going to need to be replaced also. It's cracked on the top side and the o-ring is missing. Also all of the brass bushings/bearings are worn egg shaped to one side. Shouldn't they all be centered?

Bushings etc worn egg shaped isn't good, that's for sure. I retired in 1991 so I'm not familiar with your model engine. I"ll leave this problem to other members who will be better informed.

Not sure if the 95 model 30 hp has " brass bushings "-------So post pictures or a model number.
