difference between 1996 88Hp and 115 hp

I just bought a boat with a johnson 88 the seller said it was now a 115hp changed the carbs changed the exhaust from flat to a bubble exhaust housing. the jetting i found was the same between the two motors so what is the difference the timing seem to be the same as well i am going to make it run tomorrow and see what is going on with it if you have any input please share thanks

The 88 / 90 HP block had smaller intake ports that the 115 HP blocks.----------As is usually the case there is more to it than just changing out a few parts.
