"I have a 1986 Mercury Outboar
"I have a 1986 Mercury Outboard 75HP (4 cylinder) with a jet lower end. The boat sat for a year without use. I ran the boat for approx. 20 minutes in fresh water and shut the motor off and wasn’t able to restart. The motor turns over only a couple of revolutions than stops. I thought the battery or starter was bad so I replaced the battery, starter and solenoid. The motor still won’t start or turn over normally. It only turns a couple of revolutions then stops then I have to cut the key again for the same result. I even removed 3 of the 4 spark plugs and still wont turn over normally. The water pump was pissing water fine when it was running, had the correct oil gas mixture (new gas). Could something in the motor be partially seized causing resistance? Shaft bearing starting to seize? Piston ring broke? Help!"
