DF40 starts in gear

Need to adjust the long nut where upper and lower shift rod join.-------Did you remove lower unit with control in neutral ?----did lower jump into forward during the work?
 
Good morning, I actually did the work on it last January.
I watched several videos to see what to do and I believe I did leave it in Nuetral.
I don't remember if it jumped into gear.
I will get on it this morning and try to adjust that link.
I will let you know.
