Wanted to let other future buyers of Mercury Marine boat motors know what they could be in for. Purchased a new Ranger Boat with a 150hp Mercury ProXS motor back in 2021. Used the boat only 24.3hrs. Had a significant leg injury so could not use my boat the past year and a half. I have had the boat serviced as if I did use it at a Mercury authorized dealer that has taken care of my boats for years. Went to use the boat for the first time in 2 years and the motor had metal shavings in the oil, was making a knocking sound, and had no power. Took it back to my dealer. They said I needed a new power head. They said they've seen a bunch of these. They reached out to Mercury to see if they would make a good faith repair. They supplied all of the maintenance records to Mercury. Mercury declined assisting in any way. So when you buy a Mercury, get the extended warranty for two reasons... #1, they don't stand behind their products at all. Not even if they are only used for 24hrs. #2, it's ridiculously expensive to repair them.
Instead of spending the $8-10K to repair the motor, I will be spending that money warning other potential Mercury buyers of Mercury's shotty quality and horrendous support for their products.
