"Look on the back of one of the gauges- does it look like the older style with a GND, ILLum, Ign terminal and input or is there just one plug with a weather seal on it? If you have the older style, make sure the safety switch is OK (assuming it hasn't been bypassed for the ignition). If it's OK, look on the back of each gauge for loose terminals, broken wires, absent voltage, ground or signal. If it's only the tach, look on the coil(s) for problems and make sure the distributor(s) base is well grounded. Also, make sure the motor harness is plugged into the boat harness completely- there have been some problems with this in the past.
If it's the latter, look for a black box under the dash (about 5"x8"x1-1/2" thick. Disconnect the battery NEG, remove the main harness and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Reconnect the plug and reinstall the screw and reconnect the battery. If this doesn't get you anywhere, Faria can be reached by phone or 'net."
