Hi, I'm new to the forum. So I have a 76 16 Donzi with a SBC and 280 Volvo. When I got the boat it had a high compression 383 that was good. So I put a 350 in it. Boat was good for a while till I got a vibration. Found it was the ujoints. Looking closer it looks like it had a u joint let go in the past. And whoever put the new u joints in bent one of the ears on the yoke and crushed the c clip groove. And that's where my problem lies, trying to find a new yoke. The yoke I have is a course spline with rounded splines, I found that when I tried putting a course spline yoke assembly from a 270 and it wouldn't slide onto the intermediate shaft on the boat. So now I'm stuck trying to find an external c clip yoke and no one seems to have ever seen those before. Any help would be great, my poor 16 is stuck on the lift. Thanks Chris

You say: "And whoever put the new u joints in bent one of the ears on the yoke and crushed the c clip groove."

The early 270, 275, 280 and 285 used the bearing cross with the internal clips at the bearing caps! IOW, the groove for the C clip is within the bearing cap.

The later universal shafts went to a different style bearing cross. The bearing caps on this bearing cross are externally clipped.

This is unlikely because Donzi used their own Borg Warner -slash- Volvo Penta PDS adapter housing, and the PDS used course splines at the AFT section.
All later universal shaft female yokes were fine spline.

There were a few odd female yokes produced, and I may have one here.

Post a few pictures for us.

I'll have to add some pictures when I get home. It won't let me upload pictures from my phone. I think that my yoke assembly might be newer replacement from Volvo. Because it looked like your can get the assembly from Volvo still, but it's all external clip like I have.

OK..... you have a rare late style Universal shaft with a course spline female yoke.
If you need a replacement, it may be difficult.
If you need a replacement, shoot me a private email, and I'll take a look to see if I have one.
However..... I do have complete Universal shafts that I can sell. They were "take-outs" and in near pristine con

OK.... back on task:
You have removed this from your 280 transmission main drive gear.
This means that you have also removed the seal surface washer and the small "Rolling Torque" control shims that were just inside of this wear-washer.
Please understand where you are, and the importance of these shims.

Also note that if this wear-washer is replaced, that the rolling torque value procedure must be performed.

OK, I have been doing some research and i found that I swim to have the same yoke assembly as a do drive for diesels, does that sound right? Also I'm only looking for the intermediate section of the assembly.
Thanks, but yes i totally understand the importance. Thank you, I appreciate that your stressed that.
