Cuts out at lower speeds

Hello Brother and sister boaters,
*
I've been having a hard time getting my 1993 6HP Longshaft Johnson outboard* purring like a kitten.
*
Last fall when I bought it she was running*ok at speeds above an idle and would cut out at lower speeds and eventually stall without getting it up to higher RPMs. This past winter I rebuilt the carburator, installed new spark plugs and put fresh fuel w/oil in the tank. She started up but ran the same way and within a short time started to cut out at even higher RPMs. It currently needs to run at a pretty high rate of speed to keep from stalling out.
*
Any ideas about*what to try next (other than the repair shop)?

Obviously it was not a carburetor problem.--------------------Do a cylinder compression test and make sure that spark will jump a gap of 3/8" or more.---------------------Carburetor and ignition are properly synchronized ????--------------You have checked for proper crankcase compression ??
