"I got my new shaft strut in yesterday,it was like christmas all over again. My problem is that I also got a new bearing for my other strut.Got the old bearing out with out much of a fuss using the hacksaw blade method, cleaned the bore up with a piece of scotch brite. When i went to put the new bearing in it just slid right in by hand. Its not loose but there is no press fit.My question is can i use some loctite along with the set screws to hold this thing in place or do i need another new strut?"

"Jody,
I wouldn't trust it to last. If you are sure it's the right bearing and the bore on the strut is oversized I would install the bearing using Marine-Tex knowing that the next time it needs replacing, you will be replacing the strut as well.

Good luck,
Rick"

"Rick,

"Rick, Thanks for the tip,not quite sure what marine tex is,If I ask for some at west marine do you think they will know what i am talking about?Sounds like it will permanantly bond the bearing to the strut necessitating replacement of the strut when the bearing wears out,Is that correct? If so ,sounds good to me.I could spend that five hundred on thru hull fittings or any number of other things that I need .The list seems to be endless. Thanks again for the advice."

"Jody, Yes, you are correct.

"Jody, Yes, you are correct. Maine-Tex is a permanent two part epoxy putty. Any marine supplier will know what it is.

"Jody:

Pull the bushing back out, coat it with epoxy (Marine Tex or PC7 marine grade from a harware store) and reinstall it. DON'T leave it loose in there or it will fail on you.
