"HI THERE, THATS A COOL SEQUINCE...ALL GOING WELL ON THE MOTOR, WITH EARMUFFS, EVEN IN A DRUM...ONLY WHEN ON LAKE IT SHOWS THOSE PROBLEMS, FUELPUMP = ELEC PUMP(GOOD FUELSTREAM), SPARK AS PER J REEVES(I THINK)TESTER GOOD, COMPRESSION WAS(BEFORE DECARB) 1=116,2=115,3=117, 4=109 (ALL IN PSI)...CAN THIS MAYBE BE A PRIMER\RECIRCUL HOSE PROBLEM OR "BACKPRESSURE" IN DEEPER WATER???"

"So it only has this problem on the lake under load and not on the muffs ??

Recirc hoses take unburnt fuel back through the engine, if they are blocked or incorrectly routed there shouldn't be as much a difference to engine performance as you are describing. The routing for recirc hoses on my 79 140 is :-
Cylinder 1 to nipple 3
Cylinder 2 to nipple 4
Cylinder 3 to nipple 1
Cylinder 4 to nipple 2
(cylinder 1 is upper most and on the right when viewed from the rear, cylinder 2 upper most on the left, 3 - lower right, 4 - is lower left)

You could carfeully remove the rubber pipes from the nipples (the ones on the manifold are plastic/nylon if they're original), and check the recirc tubes for blockages, especially if the engine was standing for some time and remove the nipples (valves) from the intake manifold plate and check they only work one way."

Also Cylinder 4 looks a little

Also Cylinder 4 looks a little low compared to the others. Do you have any figures after decarb ??

"Ok, im not to worried bout the recirc stuff, as you said, performance wont be too effected..compression after decarb wasnt tested....but now i have an idea, tell me what u think..i'll do compression test again(cold motor), then retest on warm motor, check for differences, second thought.. what bout a loss in cranck case pressure under load..either leaking gasket or reed valves(i think they are fine though), reason for my thinking is that when i put cover on, idling changed, someone said exaust gasses are leaking into box, so i resealed...maybe i did a crappy job of it...would the symptoms be of a leaking crank case??? how can u test for that prior to undertaking such a job??....thanx.. ps, live in the republic is cool"
