Crusader Sync not working

I have a twin engine Tiara with 8.1 Crusaders 2006 Fuel Injected that does not engage the Port engine after engaging the sync. The port engine does not come off idle when synced with the starboard. It will operate independently when not synced to starboard. The sync light comes on and glows when the engines are idling but the port engine does not engage. Any ideas?

When you state "...does not engage", do you mean there is no throttle response on that engine ??

Do you know which one of your engines is the master?

The starboard engine is the master and the port is the slave. When turning on the sync with both engines at idle, the port trottle is placed in the wide open position making it the slave. Then when increasing the trottle of the starboard engine, the port engine should increase as well. It does not. If the port engine is running at 1500rpms and the sync switch is turned on, the rpms of the port engine goes to idle(650rpm). With the sync on, the port engine will not respond.

My guess is that you have the MEFI-4 ECUs and the digital throttle system with the TAC(Throttle actuator control) box and the TCP (throttle control position) sensor?

Do you have access to a RINDA scan tool (or equivalent)?

the non-responsive engine staying at idle suggest a simple lack of power or lack of communication issue...the scan tool would be a huge benefit in troubleshooting...

Does the Rinda scan tool give error codes for specific prblems? Does it have to be a Rinda or can any scan device that is compatible with MEFI-4 ECUs read the error? Could I rent a reader from say Auto Zone? The port engine does not lack power, it runs fine but just doesn't connect (sync) to the starboard engine when the sync is turned on.

Rinda's tools are the industry standard...I am sure there are other scanners but can't tell you what will provide the level of detail.

I doubt the auto part stores would be of any use for the scanner.

you could always start by checking the data cable connecting the two engines...

I found out that the MEFI-4 ECUs need to be completely de-energized (turn all power off to the modules) as they apparently will not sync when engaging the engine's electronic syncronizer. After having a tech work 2 hours looking for bad connections and wiring problems, as a last resort we powered off the ECUs to both engines for 20 minutes. The syncronizer has been working as it has in the past. Apparently, the power was not totally shut down when the boat was winter stored. If anyone else has this problem, try shutting all power off to the engines before thinking the cruz n sync doesn't work!
