"I'm about to repower from carbed 454's to the MPI 8.1's. Does anyone have any performance numbers on these engines, and what I can expect to pay?. I've seen some of the prices online, but was looking for some real world numbers. Any information will be greatly appreciated."

I am about to do the same thing. I have dug and turned over every rock out there, and the best deal for the Captains Choice 8.1 is about 12k without gear. I found a pair in FTL with Hurth 630A for about 14.5. Dont think it is going to get any better."

"splashed the boat fri.[40 jersey]twin 454's , started port everything fine , started stbd.everything seemed fine till we checked for water cooling in exhaust , NONE.proceeded to pull raw water pump , looked like a new rebuild which it was. reinstalled, no water, repeated three times checked for missing key , wrong impeller,i was dumbfounded. remove the cover on raw water strainer blew thru intake side aok filled it with water to see if it would suck up , bumped over with starter ,low&behold air bubbles . hoses were reversed . always double check everything"
