Crusader Marine Engine identification

I have a pair of Crusader Marine 350 XL engines in the boat I recently purchased and I'm trying to determine what year they were built.
The tags on the engines give the serial numbers as 103040 and 103041. Can anyone tell me how what year they were built? The boat is a 1981 but I was told the engines were replaced around 15 years ago .
Thanks

Welcome to ME.com.

according to the data posted by our webhost a while back, both of your engine were assembled in 1998 ....

Thank you for the info. Is there a formula somewhere that breaks down what each of the numbers in the Serial Number signifies ?

For the 'older' engines, the serial numbers were assigned sequentially and there's nothing to decode. The rotation is usually stamped into the plate (LH or RH) in front of the numbers. For the newer engines, you can get the 'decoder info' from Crusader's www site.

Hey John,

It may also be worth trying to contact PCM / Crusader. It can be a bit tricky getting them on the phone, however once you do they are pretty helpful.

The PCM website lists this contact number, may be a good place to start - 803-345-1337
