Hi All -
I am new to this forum so i apologize if this question has been addressed. I have recently run into an issue with my 1997 Crusader 454 XLIs (apprx 1400hrs), which has happened only about 2 times per year. Here is the fact pattern.
On Some longer trips, when running about 3200 RPMS for 1 - 2 hours at a time the boat runs perfect. When i slow down (I.e. heading into a harbor or fleet etc) then when i try to pick the boat back up to cruising speed. The STBD engine will bog down one it reaches 2100 RPMs. It will not die, RPMs drop to idle.
In the past, i thought it was the RACORs clogging up, however each time i changed both sides they were both very clean. So dirty fuel tank doesnt seem to be the issue. I was also able to talk to the prior owner and he indicated that this happened twice before. He ended up changing the fuel pump. Then it happened again.
He said his mechanic thought it was the MAP sensor, which would make sense as this controls how much fuel is injected to the cylinders (ie the boat was bogging down like it was starving for fuel). When i located the MAP sensor and ground terminal (on the starbord side of the starbord engine - a b*tch to get to!!!) I noticed that the ground terminal and screw had a decent amount of rust and buildup on it. See attached pictures. For what its worth the port side looked very clean.
I guess my question is does this diagnosis make sense? and if so, should I have a mechanic actually replace the sensor (not sure if those ever go bad)? Any discusssion on this would be appreciated and who knows maybe this will help someone else!!
