Crusader 454 Exhaust Manifold Torque Specs

Good trick to use is to take one of your bolts to the auto parts store and buy two more of same size but an inch and a half longer. Cut off the heads, slot the ends for a screw driver and put them in the outside bolt holes. Hang the gasket on them and then it is SO easy to slide the exhaust manifold on. No wrestling around, no alignment issues. Put a couple of bolts in the inside holes, remove the guide bolts with a screwdriver, and proceed. Makes a difficult one man job easy.

The gaskets I have allow you to drop them in after the 2 outside bolts have been loosely threaded. What I need to know is the foot puonds of torque needed for the exhaust manifold bolts and if I need to tighten from the center out or not?
 
25 ft lbs...I use the pattern you described.. alternating l-r-l... Also seen them clamped down front to back with no problem...retorque after a complete thermal cycle (cold-hot-cold) is also standard practice.
 
You can download a PCM service manual for the engine if you go to correctcraft.com and look under references/manuals. There are several PCM manuals there. That manual says 20 lb-ft. (for both small and big block) but I have noticed that these things change a little over the years. I have a later 5.7 manual that says 11 first pass, 22 second pass. I think it depends upon what engineer was writing it at the time. It is not an exact science (well maybe head bolts and bearing caps are a little more exact).
