"Hey guys, just bought a 29 Oc

"Hey guys, just bought a 29 Ocean with twin 1991 Crusader 454's rebuilt with 200 hours. They purr. I do however seem to get some steam blow back out of my exhaust ports...both engines are FWC and run around 175 degrees. is this ok?

Also, I havnt gotten the boat to WOT (dont wanna push it too hard..only had the boat a few weeks). I cruise the boat at 3000 RPM...the boat weighs 13000 pounds, and i cruise at about 18 knts with 250 gallons of fuel. Is this decent, or should I think up repitching/checking engine performance (though i doubt it could/would be the engines).

Just wondering if anyone has any input regarding steam...and speed/performance on a similar sized boat."

"re: pitch. to determine optim

"re: pitch. to determine optimum, must know W.O.T. RPM. pick a nice day, with normal load and let her out. at 200 hours she's well broken in."

"Alright, I'm prolly going

"Alright, I'm prolly going to go down this weekend, see if the seas are light, and load her with some fuel. What should my WOT RPM be roughly?

I've only wound her up to 3600 RPM and I hit 28 MPH...and she still had plenty to let loose..."

"3000 to 3300 rpm is most like

"3000 to 3300 rpm is most likely the best rpm for these engines. The hull has a sweet spot, where your getting the best speed for the lowest rpm find that and use it."

Our 34C has twin 454's whi

Our 34C has twin 454's which had been a re-power of the original 350's. The owner had replace the original props and we could easily hit 5500 rpm. Had the props done at PropScan. Book WOT is 4400 for these engines. We are at 4700 down about 800rpm with this adjustment. They did SUCH a GREAT job...Vibration is NON-Existant !! Cruise speed at 3300 for us is near 22 knots (gps)

"TBRODes, Sounds like everythi

"TBRODes, Sounds like everything is just right for you. 200 hours is well beyond breakin. Go ahead and bury the throttle once for about 30 seconds. This should give you an idea of what she will do. I would say that if your RPMs exceed 4400 substantially then you should have your props adjusted for more grip. Over-reving is not healthy for the engine. Just my opinion."
