Crankcase gasket for 83 15 hp question

"When I removed the crankcase

"When I removed the crankcase from the motor plate on my sons 1983 15 hp Mariner there appears to be red rubber washers around the water ports between the motor plate and the block. Are they part of the gasket? And do they come with a new replacement gasket? Or are they separate item?
