crank pulley socket size - 454

I'm reinstalling my transmission and struggling to get the spline and damper to engage. I assume it's off a hair so my plan was to have someone slightly rotate the crank and hopefully I'll feel it catch. What size socket is it? I didn't have one on board which was a surprise.

thanks

I have not had to turn the crank to align them. Does the xmission input shaft turn by hand fairly easily?

It does and I moved it twice with screwdriver. Maybe I need to make sure something else isn't holding it up. Does it require some force to get started onto the flange? I couldn't really get a feel for it coming out and now I'm going "uphill" with 150 lbs working against me.

The gear should go "in" without a lot of force...the damper bolt is 1/2" SAE Fine...so a 3/4" hex should be about right...I have come across some crank pulley combinations that will NOT let you get a socket thru their opening...

If you need to move the flywheel, you can always get access to the teeth thru the timing cover...
