Could I be missing a part here?

Hi All,

This picture shows what I think is the actual end of the crankshaft. I have removed the lower oil seal before taking this picture

When I look at this parts diagram, there is a part #7 referred to as the SEAL, CRANKSHAFT that I don't see on my motor...

It looks like it should sit on top of the oil seal. If that is true, then the part is missing on my motor. Which would explain some of the issues I am having with water getting up into the motor. But I'm not sure if this part is possibly that black piece inside the end of the crankshaft that you can see in the picture. Does anyone know if this piece should be here? It was cheap so I ordered one while I was ordering my lower oil seal so when it arrives I'll know for sure (I think).

Thanks,
Rob

Your picture clearly shows that part !!----It is but a thin metal piece that is pushed onto the bottom of the crankshaft.--------And was there something wrong with the old seal that you removed ?---------If not than the search for your motor problems will go on.

Ahh Thanks. I don't really know if there was anything wrong with the seal, I mangled the crap out of it trying to get it out :/

I have a new one coming n Monday and I'll give it another shot. So that seal that is pushed on to the bottom of the crankshaft, is it completely covering it? So, does the oil seal actually seal against that part, or the crankshaft itself?

Thanks, Rob.

The part you're awaiting seals the crank from the outside elements; part # 7 seals the driveshaft splines from the same and, since there's a hole in the crank, the inside of the motor as well. BOTH need to be okay.

It looks like the new part has changed a bit. The new one has this tapered end where the existing one is straight. Is this the wrong part or will this changed one still work? Also, how does this piece come off, does it just pull off?

Thanks,
Rob

That is the part number I got, and I did get an o-ring. The one I got looks like it has less of a taper than the one in that picture. So you think that is the right part?
