Corrosion in engine cylinders

I am trying to find the name o

I am trying to find the name of the corrosion by-product that forms in the engine cylinder between the aluminum piston and the cast iron cylinder when saltwater enters the cylinder and is allowed to sit for a period of time. After it dries it looks like sand. Any help would be appreciated.

the technical term is "pre

the technical term is "precipitate" and its not a by product of corrosion but if evaporation.

the red/brown/orange colored stuff is the product of corrosion.

I thought the new guys were entitled to "the three strike rule" before the pelting commenced. I try to refrain as I've experienced "foot in mouth" here and don't feel good about it - mostly from the 'sharing bad info' aspect. Being wrong doesn't bug me, as long as I understand why - rest assured, it has happened many times over the years.
