Corrosion at oil cooler?

At least I think it's a oil cooler. There are a couple of coolers at the top rear of the engine.(1995 Ford 5.8) One has 2 small lines entering from each side for either oil or Power steering I believe. has a water hose that comes out and goes into another cooler. The hose is "U" shaped and maybe all of 6" long. Anyway I noticed some white powder looking stuff at the end of one of the hoses like it had been leaking something. Tightened up the hose clamp and let it go for a bit. Just kept getting a little worse. Pulled the hose today and the fitting it attaches to was very corroded. I cleaned it us as best I could with some waterproof sandpaper. It's not visually stunning but it feels very smooth now. Question is, is there anything I can put on there like a corrosion inhibitor or paint to slow this process from happening again? Also, is there anything we can flush these engines with that won't hurt the hoses, impeller, etc.??

As always, Thanks!!! You guys are saving my sanity here!!!

Mine is a 5.8FSIPHUCCE http://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-explodedview-7797017-21-10622.aspx On this page it's item number #28 for the hose itself. Says Oil Cooler to Oil Cooler. The Oil cooler that shows the aluminum pitting in the hose connection is not shown. I will try to find a different picture of that. For some reason, they didn't put both on the same page. Attached is another picture of the hose from a OMC page for a 1995 model year also, but again, it does not show the lower cooler. The hose is number 17 in this photo. Just trying to give you a visual of where this is going. I'll try to get a better picture from on the boat also. It's literally one cooler stacked on top of another.

SEQ #28 in that schematic, is the alternator tension arm bolt.

And just an FYI.... by 1995, this would be all Volvo Penta......... not OMC.

Sorry, I was not clear. 28 on the photo in the link I posted.
28Hose, oil cooler to oil cooler1 Out of production
Obsolete part

It the ATTACHED photo, that hose is 17.

Here are a few more pictures for reference. The corroded cooler has a pressure relief valve on the top of it.

I would agree that that is what it looks like. Have never seen a water cooled fuel pump before. Just strange that the hose description is "Oil Cooler to Oil Cooler". Either way, I think I'm going to try to clean that hose connection up a bit more and then try to put some sort of Rustoleum on it to try to slow that pitting and corrosion.

Chris.... the Marine version EFI does not offer a fuel tank return as do the Auto versions, so the liquid cooling of the fuel becomes necessary.
