Corroded plug

"Hey Folks,
Newbie here,1st

"Hey Folks,
Newbie here,1st post. Just got through changing plugs in my 318 and had trouble with one(#5). First the ceramic broke off,so I soaked it w/ Liquid Wrench. When I finally got it out,I see that its corroded. The plug next to it (#7)had a little gunk on it too. Is this a leak in the water jacket or manifold? Is it fixable or should I look to replace the block?

You may have, simply, plugs that were not installed properly with anti-seize on the threads. The marian folks did that to me, and I had to pull the head off to get the remains of # 8 plug out.

Even automobile engines can ha

Even automobile engines can have plugs so corroded that they cannnot be gotten out without ruining the threads in the cylinder head. Using anti-sieze on the threads of plugs that you are installing is a good rule for any engine but essential on marine engines.
