Correct placement of oil lines?

First of all, it is a pleasure to be part of this forum with access to all of its great information. I have just purchased a 1997 Chris Craft 34 crowne with twin 350 XL crusader inboards connected to hurth transmissions and I am performing basic maintenance on it. While going over the engines I noticed that the in/out oil lines from the oil filter to the engine are reversed on the starboard motor from the port motor. On the port motor I notice that the flow out from the filter goes to the port fitting underneath the engine where the two fittings are side by side and the hoses thread on to one or the other. On the starboard motor I notice that the flow out of the filter goes to the starboard fitting. I have good oil pressure on both engines from the gauges. Can someone tell me if it is correct the way it is or it is a problem and I should change one of them?

The oil supply from the engine will always feed the port that directs the oil to the “outside” of the filter media.
In other words...... the flow of oil will enter the filter from the OD.
It will return to the engine from the ID of the filter.

Dont get confused with an additional thermostatically controlled oil cooling device, if so equipped.

Then you would be best off to follow Rick's advice in Post #3 and inspect the adapter on the block to figure out the inlet and outlets....then do the same on the adapter, and then determine if some replumbing is required.....

Most adapters have thick enough bosses to permit determining which port is routed where (outside or center)....and once you figure out the first one, the other should be done the same....

Fully agree...... make certain that both engines are correctly plumbed!

The OD of the filter media offers more available and less restrictive square area of filtration.
If the ID of the filter media was being supplied, it would become saturated more quickly, causing the oil bi-pass valve to open prematurely.

Good logic, that makes sense. I am going to inspect the adapter at the engine and see if I can verify a center "supply" passage from the other. I'll let you know how it goes. Much appreciated.
