Cooling water strainer

My boat with an AQ130C engine

My boat with an AQ130C engine (raw water cooled) has never had a sea water strainer on it in it's 36 year life and so far as I know that has not caused any problems. It's strictly a freshwater boat and I don't cruise in very shallow water much. Am I on borrowed time before something eventually happens as a result of not having a strainer or should I not worry about it?

Corrosion has never been an issue with this boat so I would think something like the above would be just fine. Also, I was planning on plumbing it right into the rubber water house that feeds the engine mounted water pump. Any problem with doing that?"
