"Hey All,
Please help, I have

"Hey All,
Please help, I have a buddy that owns a 1985 four winns with a an Evinrude 120hp outboard in it. The engine runs like new, however when we took off the engine cover there was a small plastic elbow fitting on the bottem right side of the motor close to the lower cover. This elbow had high pressure water coming out of it. The more rpm's the more water came out. The only hose near this location is larger in diameter but has a yellow check valve in it. I think its supposed to empty the cowl out if water enters. Well it doesn't matter with this elbow/port wide open, the lower half of the engine compartment fills completely up. Is this normal or should there be a hose connected to this elbow for the cooling system. The engine has some discoloration from running hot but isn't over heating.

Also, there is a two hole port at the very rear center of the engine. Is this exhaust??? Should water flow from here? I know nothing about outboards please help...
Thanks to all
Dave"

"Ther should be a hose connect

"Ther should be a hose connected going to a Y shaped plastic connector. The Thin hose goes in on the thin connector on one top of the Y, a bit futher down a thicker hose going down in the cowling (to empty it) and the lower end of the Y is connected to a thick hose going through the cowling and out through a rubber bushing.
The exhaust relief holes will hopefully have water coming out!"
