"It is located on the top section of the exhaust housing. I just changed them out on my '81 Evinrude 140 last weekend. Basically same engine. My port side thermostat spring had junk jammed into it and the two small holes that let water flow past the thermostats (so the hot water can get to the thermostats) were clogged solid. Could this have led to my port side cylinder 4 failure, maybe? Anyway, easy job.
