"I'm new to this board, so first I'd like to just say this is a wonderful resource for us boat folks.

My motor will not pee. The only way I can make it pee is to install the engine flushing muff and turn the water up "full blast". I've just installed a new lower unit, new water pump and thermostat.

What should be my next step?"

"Cedric, sounds like maybe you

"Cedric, sounds like maybe you have some "crud" in either your water tube or the powerhead itself. Either that or your impeller slipped it's key upon installation.

Either way you are probably going to have to remove the lower unit again to have a look.

With it off you can jury rig your hose to the water tube - if you get good flow, back to checking out the water pump..."

"Thanks-a-million Graham,

It's back to checking the water pump. I hooked the hose to the water tube as you suggested and I got very good flow!

With the exception of the water pump housing, my water pump assembly is all new. I've assembled the impeller in the correct direction (clockwise), etc, etc. A buddy of mine suggests that I may be getting air in the impeller, and should use some gasket sealant. I've never done this in the past and have never had any issues.

Any suggestions on where to begin?"

"I don't tend to use seala

"I don't tend to use sealant on the waterpump cover. Provided that the gasket is new and the cover torqued down it's generally not a problem.

What I usually find is either, the seal where the driveshaft enters is bad/worn/missing or the seal where the water-tube enters is worn. That is assuming that the impeller hasn't slipped it's key (which would allow it usually to give you some water pressure at idle, but then loses it at higher rpms)...

I would concentrate on the waterpump cover (if the impeller is locked in properly) - 95% of the time, that's where the (leak) will be..."

"Graham, you're right agai

"Graham, you're right again, I took the water pump cover off and took it to my local dealer. When compared to a new one, I could easily see some minor wear grooves.

Replaced it, and it is now "peeing" at full power!

Thanks,"

"Cedric, great to hear it work

"Cedric, great to hear it worked out. Enjoy your boat with what's left of the summer now
